Query page redesign feedback thread (0.29)

Hi,

stash is great, the old ux was already very efficient, i get the idea of the new one.
However, I can’t get my head around deprioritising search…

I dunno how you all use stash, but isn’t it about organizing and search.. how come this is a little, tiny field in some hard to reach corner? ideally this is conflicting (like everything else that is in the corner) with some OSes that love to use corners for whichever “functions”.

I feel similar about the three dots in the upper right. Before everything was right in the middle, actionable and limited mouse paths, I think the real change and not to the good is to structure ui elements and align them at the corners.

I wouldn’t do that.

The recent fixes solves most of it, but I think there is still some room for improvment.

On the positive side, the sidebar itself I feel is a good idea, making pagination hover over has a nice touch.

Have to agree with this, need to click twice to get to the tagger is frustrating.

Thanks @WithoutPants. I agree with @dman_15443, I feel everything is shoved to the left with lots of wasted space being held for rarely used filter tag buttons. I don’t even think I consider my monitor ultrawide.

It’s a lot of extra mouse movement with search being the most used item for me now the furthest away. Same with the “select all” now on the far right.

For example, if I want to add a tag to all scenes I’ve searched and there are more than 40 scenes:

  1. Move mouse to the far left, select show more than 40 scenes.
  2. Move mouse to the far right, drop down Select all
  3. Move mouse to the centre to choose edit

I also miss the page(s) navigation at the top in addition to the bottom. When updating scene content metadata, the previous navigation setup was much more convenient.
Edit: I saw your later message regarding the CSS. Thanks! (The floating version of the bottom page nav I find more clutter than useful. Static at bottom was just fine as long as we had the one on top.)

In the dropdown on the right I would group the play and play random together. I also would de-prioritize the play button and the play drop down functions - e.g. move the play button to the middle between the + and … and put the play and play random second and third after create scene in the dropdown. This is because hitting play on any scene already plays the current listed scenes as a playlist and really the play random function is the only play function that could use a boost in access.

I can only speak for myself, but I think those of us that can make use of Stash probably spend as much time if not more time performing data entry as we do in playback. Scrapers are great but nowhere near perfect and data entry and editing makes up a ton of my usage time, so anything to make that easier is welcome.

I had already setup bookmarked filters for regularly used filtering when performing data entry, so I feel the right panel is redundant/wasted space.

I too would prefer options to turn on or off these new panels and select the positioning of the search/buttons.

Thanks again!

I’ve been using Stash for a bit over 2 years now. I never had any problem with the old GUI and I don’t have any major objections to the redesign, just two keyboard shortcut suggestions.

I liked the way that I could use the - and + keys in the Query page in previous versions instead of using the zoom slider to make the scene tiles smaller/bigger. It would be even more useful for the current GUI given that the zoom slider is behind the Display Mode dropdown menu which isn’t visible when you scroll down.

In a Scene page and others you can use , to show/hide the sidebar/details. I think the Query page would benefit from the same mechanic for the sidebar instead of only using the toggle sidebar button.

Thanks for the active development of the app. Have a good one.

I’ve spent a great deal of time considering the feedback received and decided to backout the toolbar changes for the scene list.

To that end, I’ve raised a PR ( [RFC] Refactor scene list toolbar by WithoutPants · Pull Request #6322 · stashapp/stash · GitHub ) to do so. It also relocates the sidebar toggle button to a fixed position in the top-left of the screen. Please see that PR for screenshots, and ideally provide some feedback as to whether this will solve the painpoints you are experiencing.

This was a bug, and has been fixed in the PR and upcoming bugfix release.

I’ll try to squeeze in that sidebar toggle keyboard shortcut as well.

I just made a blog/topic post, Designing my ideal Stash content list page, relevant to this discussion, which may be a interesting read.

I wanted to come back and comment about the disjointed nature of all the buttons being scattered around to @Lamda604 hit the nail on the head:

And that the changes are being backed out so THANK YOU again @WithoutPants, for your efforts and listening.
It is great to see such a solid community here, and there are plenty of people far smarter than I am who have ideas about progressing the layout forward and are already contributing ideas while making it as user friendly as possible and keeping the most people happy. (Looking at you @NoodleDude, @pxrp, @IAmKontrast and of course @feederbox826, @spaceyuck & @CJ13 who’s plugins are already deployed on my end). Hopefully we can keep the discussion going to help build towards v0.30, v1.0 and beyond.
