What are people’s thoughts on having a Plugin Ideas category or tag to share potential plugin ideas? This could serve as sounding board for plugin ideas, getting feedback on whether it can be done, gauging interest, or giving developers a chance to collaborate on ideas.
I tend to turn most of my ideas into prototypes, but sometimes I don’t have the time. It’d be good to share some of these ideas.
I think Plugins > Plugin Development should cover that for the most part. We can add some specific tags if needed like #proposal or #looking-for-feedback, etc.
Not splitting it into another category would also allow to directly share code if that plugin gets developed and notify all the people that were already part of the topic.
Yeah, I’d be interested in a more stable location for ideas to look through. Discord isn’t the place and I think feature requests on github get closed if they’re more plugin territory.
I think having a category with Ideas in the name stands out more, so IMO I’d suggest renaming Plugin Development to something like “Plugin Ideas & Development”
Even a simple thread where people can post quick comments for needs and pain points would be valuable.
Since some time passed after initial implementation I noticed several things that could be improved.
The category should be updated to encompass all community project development not just plugins. Both description and the name shoud reflect that.
We sometimes close requests for Development > Features because they are either out of scope or better suited to be implemeted and maintained by a community plugin/project. A dedicated tag should be created and added to those topics and the tag documented it in the category description.
I’m looking for suggestions for a new category name. It should:
