I just had someone vote no on a scene creation edit because I didn’t include tags, which makes me wonder, what is the policy on what tags edits should include?
If there are tags at the studio it is prefered to add them even if just to prevent a followup edit. I’ve never seen it as a required item but it is good to include.
If the information exists and especially when the scraper has the info you should submit things.
There are some that are useful that you can derive from other tags so it there is 1 performer and she is female add the solo female tag etc.
You can also add your own tags if you identify that they are in the scene.
It is not a requirement to include tags but it is a shared database so it might be more useful for the next person if you do.
OK, I’ll make an effort to include the studio tags when present.
It can be very inconvenient to manually type 30 tags if your tag names differ from StashDB, though.
Many of my sites don’t have a scraper, so it would require manual work either way
This has been a problem for a long time, and a big reason why we considered tags optional since the early days. While it’s gotten easier since then (draft submissions and alias matching, mostly), it’s still a big hurdle for a lot of contributors. Matching tags by StashID would be the next big step towards smoothing out that whole process.
My most common studios don’t seem to use tags. Even for those that do, I prefer to tag my scenes with my own “standard” set of tags based on my own screening of the scene, hitting as many of the StashDB tag categories as I can. My practice is to not submit a scene until it’s fully tagged, but I probably wouldn’t downvote a scene for lacking tags.
For more recently released scenes that have already been added by others but with few or no tags, I try to submit updates to add the tags. I haven’t gotten to the point of doing that for older scenes.
My local tags are set up hierarchically based on the StashDB tag categories and named to map directly to StashDB tags. The one exception is a set of meta-tags (library maintenance things and those to track pending updates and such), which specifically do not match to StashDB tags so they’re intentionally dropped when I submit a new or updated scene.
