Proposal: Rename tag `Orgasm` to `Female Orgasm`

The tag Orgasm has the description “Female performer reaches orgasm, whether real or acted out.” I think the name ought to be changed to Female Orgasm for clarity.

There was a previous proposed edit to do this rename (link) over two years ago that was rejected, but there’s explicitly no objection to the name change. I’m not sure why it was rejected. Perhaps there were additional, objected-to, changes in that edit originally but voters didn’t flip their votes in time once those parts were removed.

I think it would make more sense to change the description to be gender-neutral, rather than changing the name to be gender-specific. There are at minimum couple hundred scenes within gay studios which make use of this tag (based on my local search), so this tag use hasn’t been gendered even though the description is.

I could also see an argument for removing it from those gay studios. I haven’t looked into what the tag meaning is there to know whether or not the tag has realistic usage or even matches the expectation on StashDB if the tag was gender-neutral.

IMO a description change is a fine resolution as well. I just want the name and description to be consistent.

That original edit was quite a long time ago, so I can’t remember exactly why I ultimately voted to reject it. It wasn’t updated after hitting the queue either, the edit history would show that. From the conversation and the timing of my final vote, I think I declined to vote at first to gauge others’ reactions and ultimately rejected it at the end since the vote was split and OP had seemingly changed their mind about the whole thing.

I still don’t feel particularly strongly about changing the primary name to Female Orgasm. I think it’s fine either way. But right now (and probably at the time of the old edit) I lean towards keeping primary names the same if there isn’t a strong reason to change it now. Stash leans so heavily on the primary name for matching locally saved tags when scraping from a Stash-Box that every name change requires users to adjust their local tag structure to keep everything in sync. Until tags can be matched using StashIDs instead, too many name changes at once can be a real pain to manage locally. So we could change it to Female Orgasm now, one name change isn’t a big deal, but if it’s not too important I’d rather kick the can down the road a bit longer.

I wasn’t aware that Orgasm was being scraped from gay studios. That does complicate things, but unfortunately the generic term Orgasm as a tag is so overwhelmingly common on straight and lesbian studios (always referring to female orgasm) that we can’t shift that alias to a gender-neutral usage without doing more harm than good. For context, Orgasm currently has over 33k scenes on StashDB right now.

I had to scroll all the way back to page 9 to finally find an example of a gay scene under Orgasm. Looks like the parent studio (Alpha Studio Group) has 236 scenes tagged with Orgasm on StashDB. The vast majority of those are from the sub-studio Chaos Men (189 scenes), but they’re actually using Climax on the website, not Orgasm. The other big chunk on StashDB for this network is Disruptive Films (46 scenes), but that’s probably due to user error. On their website, DF has just one scene under Orgasm and nothing under Climax. The parent studio’s website only has 8 scenes under Orgasm, including the lone DF scene again. The parent site also doesn’t have anything under Climax, so I guess it doesn’t include scenes from Chaos Men.

I don’t know if there are any other gay studios feeding into it. I scrolled through about 2 months of pages and only spotted a handful of Chaos Men scenes under Orgasm. I’m also not aware of any big straight or lesbian studios using Climax, so it should be safe to remove it as an alias to prevent the Chaos Men mismatches.

I think that might be a reasonable compromise to be honest. I don’t think the “Climax” tag on ChaosMen is particularly useful for the scene given that they don’t have any non-sex scenes. I’m also willing to roll on through the gay studios using the tag and remove the tag from the scenes it’s on.

The other ones I have locally are associated with Alpha Studio Group (with one exception) and based on the edit pattern I suspect the old Algolia scraper may be in part responsible for the proliferation of the tag there.

I just looked up that new studio (Johnny Rapid) just in case. Only 7 scenes tagged with Orgasm on StashDB. And what do you know, they also use Climax on their website instead of Orgasm (3 pages of scenes, I don’t see a total).

Sounds like removing Climax as an alias is the way to go.
