Two thoughts about using archived links and sources.
I’ve been hunting few performer profiles and scene pages down on the web archive that are no longer available online.
I got some comments about using the web archive link instead, which is fine although sometimes I have to browse few dates to be able to collect all the metadata, so I’m not sure what to do there, just use a generic web archive link like https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://www.example.com/performer/ ? In that case I feel it might not be any better to use the archive.org link than just the original.
Also sometimes I’ve had to collect a information on a scene from both the page of the scene and also from the profile page of the performer. For example when the thumbnail of the scene is only working on the profile page of the performer but the full text description and tags is only available on the page of the scene.
This also brings the question, should we perhaps be using web archive links for everything? As links that are online today could be gone tomorrow.
It’s possible to make the web archive take a snapshot manually, but there’s also https://archive.ph and others.
I know wikipedia does this for sources of articles, see here for more info: Wikipedia:Link rot - Wikipedia
