A lot of those aliases assume the gender of the performer is female. The tag Aboriginal
could apply to a male, female, trans-female, trans-male, etc.
I think if the tag is gender-non-specific, then it should be an alias of a gender-non-specific tag, so Aboriginal
should just be an alias of a tag called Native
.
I would propose this:
Tag: Native
Description: Performers with broadly indigenous racial backgrounds from a largely colonized country.
Category: Race
Aliases: Aboriginal, First Nations, First Peoples, Indigenous, Native, Native American, Native Peoples
Tag: Native Woman
Description: Female performers with broadly indigenous racial backgrounds from a largely colonized country.
Category: Race
Aliases: Native Female
Tag: Native Man
Description: Male performers with broadly indigenous racial backgrounds from a largely colonized country.
Category: Race
Aliases: Native Male
Tag: Native Trans Woman
Description: Trans-female performers with broadly indigenous racial backgrounds from a largely colonized country.
Category: Race
Aliases: Native Trans-female
Tag: Native Trans Man
Description: Trans-male performers with broadly indigenous racial backgrounds from a largely colonized country.
Category: Race
Aliases: Native Trans-male
This way, if the tag doesn’t specify a gender, it will “map” the tag as an alias to just Native
, which will be correct for any gender performer.
Native Female
will map, by being an alias, to Native Woman
Native Male
→ Native Man
Native Trans-female
→ Native Trans Woman
Native Trans-male
→ Native Trans Man
