Girls Out West: placeholder dates, title cards, hidden scene pages

Since a lot of the same issues keep coming up when new users submit scenes from it, I wanted to clear up a few sources of confusion with Girls Out West, an Australian women-produced porn studio.

Placeholder Release Dates:

For scenes released since 2020, the dates on the scene webpages are reliable. But some older scenes, the scene pages have placeholder dates where the actual release date is missing. These dates are:

2010-10-10 (for HD scenes released up until 2019)

or

2012-10-18 (for older scenes only released in SD)

Release dates matching these 2 dates should be presumed to be wrong. Most if not all scenes released since 2013 are on ThePornDB, with actual release dates there. In this case, the release dates from ThePornDB should be treated as the actual release date. (But note that some scenes also have the incorrect 2010-10-10 date listed on ThePornDB.)

For scenes released before 2013 with the placeholder dates, exact or approximate release dates will need to be found using the Wayback Machine, using archived snapshots of either the scene webpage, the performer’s studio profile page, or the studio’s main tour updates page.

Cover Images:

Scenes released since early 2008 have a title card that is shown in the first few seconds of the video file itself. For recent scenes, this matches the cover shown on the scene webpage that gets pulled by the community scraper. But for older scenes (before September 2016), the scene webpage shows a different thumbnail which is a random screenshot from the video. The actual title cards are shown on the site’s main updates page and the performer pages, but at very low resolution. This makes the cover image ambiguous.

I would suggest that: the textless screenshots on the scene pages can be acceptable as placeholder cover images if someone submits them. (One user recently submitted a few hundred scenes like this.) But it’s preferable to use the highest-resolution, actual title card from the video file, by clicking “Generate thumbnail from current” on Stash and then submitting the scene as a draft to StashDB. Please comment below if you want to discuss this suggestion.

Hidden Scene Pages:

Some older scenes, such as most of the SD-only releases, do not show up on the main tour page or the public-facing performer profile pages. However, non-paywalled webpages can be found based on the members site URL by: [edit: replacing the original with instructions for better-formatted pages]

  • Replace “members” with “tour”
  • Replace “scenes” with “trailers”
  • Delete “_vids”

These webpages can also be found using Google even if they are not indexed on the public-facing studio website.
