I find “tag - POV” useless and redundant and it should not be on stashdb.
those tags can be made using a combination of the original tag + Male POV/Female POV tag
Lets take the most commonly used one “Blowjob - POV” with 12k+ scenes. those scenes could be simply tagged with Male - POV + Blowjob.
POV is just a camera orientation, we do not have other camera orientation tags mixed with acts except for POV
having to tag “Male/Female POV” + “tag” + “tag - POV” is just too much work that will probably be missed by many people and will lead to inconsistency
I agree with this on the same grounds that we’ve used to reject the creation of the “Big Naturals” tags in the past: we already have tags for “Big Tits” and “Natural Tits”
Ah, this controversial issue again. There’s a wide range of perspectives on this. Hopefully Discourse will facilitate this better than endless repetitive conversations on Discord.
There would be something lost by getting rid of these tags: it could be, for example, that only some parts of the scene were filmed in POV and the blowjob wasn’t.
There’s a balance to be struck between blowing up the number of tags, and letting people find niches they are interested in. I would propose allowing composite tags only if they were are used by studios. This would mean keeping the ones with thousands of scenes, like “Blowjob - POV” which is a studio tag on Reality Kings and other sites, but getting rid of the more obscure ones like “Anal Reverse Cowgirl - POV”, or at least not creating any more like that.
(Also, I think “Big Naturals” should be added, because it is a popular niche and multiple studios use it. By excluding it we lose the information provided by the studios when scraping. But I wouldn’t add tags for every conceivable combination of breast size and attributes, which has been suggested before.)
just because a studio adds the tag it does not mean they are right. In addition, stash tagging system is different than other studios. I do understand that some niche tags should be kept in stashdb. example: cowgirl dp - you can say might as well split it to cowgirl + dp tag but cowgirl dp is a specific position that I won’t be able to pin point to by using those 2 tags seperately. However, I do disagree on Big Naturals and those POV tags. Big Tits + Natural Tits is sufficient in my perspective and adding tags like “Big Naturals” is just redundant.
I was hoping to get people who oppose this here to understand their perspective before doing something major like requesting to delete those POV tags. Hopefully we come up with a conclusion here.
I’m inclined to disagree with mass purging of a popular tag that studios use unless you add in a compatibility layer in scrapers and remap all tags to their components, It’s a huge amount of data lost and can’t be un-deleted
If I want to search for a scene with a POV blowjob, I can currently filter for this exact tag.
By splitting them into “Male - POV” and “Blowjob”, this can obviously also be achieved by searching for a combination of these two tags. Where it gets complicated is when you have multiple acts, some of them filmed in POV, some not.
If I want to find a scene, that includes “Missionary - POV”, a scene that has “Missionary” (non-POV) and “Blowjob” (POV), would show up when searching for “Missionary” and “Male - POV” if we were to remove those tags.
I get that it’s more work when tagging, but I feel like tags should be there to precisely describe what happens in a scene and we would lose some of that precision
I don’t really have an opinion either way, but would a compromise be to have a user preference that “hides” tags they’re not interested in? That way the existing metadata and catalogue of tags remains intact, but users who aren’t interested won’t see them.
Having internal/hidden tags might be handy for other use cases too - it seems a lot of us are already using them in this way for orchestrating various plugins, scrapers and such.
Like others said, you’re proposing that stashdb should throw away the more precise (studio provided) data to make the ‘Male POV’ tag worse. A stashdb scrape shouldn’t be objectively worse than the source, especially not for a reason like manual tagging being “too much work”.
Just apply this exact same logic to the ‘X - POV’ tags. You want ‘Male POV’ + ‘Cowgirl’? Too bad, everything is merged so you get non-POV cowgirl that ends in a POV blowjob.
And should a video with a 10 second ‘Facial - POV’ shot be tagged ‘Male POV’? Probably not, it makes it impossible to find or filter out true POV scenes.
