Hi folks. It’s been a long time since I posted a dev diary or provided much of an update on the state of stash development. As some of you may already know, I’ve been dealing with a conga line of physical health problems, external events, and mental issues that are likely caused by the former two. The effect of this is that I’ve been basically unable to do anything requiring concentration and problem solving. I am very slowly recovering function, but I’m still dealing with health issues that require further investigation. I’m finding it’s a bit of a coin flip on whether I’m capable of doing anything productive on any given day, and even then I can become exhausted pretty quickly.
That said, I’m happy to report that I’ve been able to once again put some effort into development, mostly around refining the scene query UI. The UI was iterated on with some PRs merged in the last week, and it’s now feeling like a good stopping point for development. I definitely feel that there’s more to be done, but I believe that I’ve addressed the most pressing regressions and concerns.
My focus going forward is going to be on fixing any new and pressing bugs, merging in some smaller outstanding PRs, and basically preparing for release.
I encourage those of you who can to try out the latest development build. I’d love to hear feedback on how the query UI can be improved.
Thank you for your patience throughout what’s been a very protracted development cycle. I am frustrated at the litany of issues that have prevented me from expanding stash with the pace that I’d like and that the community deserves, and remain committed to its continued development.
Hope you will get better soon, take it slow if you can.
You work is appreciated!
*edit: I checked out the dev build for the first time.
Here are my thoughts:
Why is there a button for a sidebar and the (old) filter button. They both serve the same functionality. Feels redundant
The sidebar icon should not be a config icon.
The selected filter space is super wide (feels like wasted space).
I would have expected the introduction of a sidebar would reduce the vertical space needed for the header, which is not the case. I think all buttons in the new header could and should fit in one row.
The buttons to the right of the filter bar (play, add scene …) are useless imo. I have no hard data but I can’t imagine those functions are used enough to warrant a permanent place on everybodys screen. (I would move them into the three dots menu)
Been keeping up with develop for a while now, the sidebar is slowly growing on me.
Is there any way to persist filters to the sidebar? Pinning seems to work within the popup but I think the other options are hardcoded. Good defaults, just wondering if I’m missing anything
Those are all that have been coded so far. I expect to be cleaning up the filter sidebar components before release and part of that will be adding plugin support. Additionally, I’ll be seeking feedback for what criteria types should be prioritised for addition to the sidebar, but this work will come after the release. I elected not to try to include every criteria for the sake of simplicity, effort and potential for bugs.
Hi. Honestly, I just want to thank you and everyone who’s involved in development of Stash. And having health problems is never fun. I remember being in a state where I couldn’t really work my day job, for quite a long time. Like, not for just a week or two. There were glimpses of my “usual” performance, but they were rarer and shorter. So, I can only wish for things to get better and clearer for you, when it comes to your health.
