Bouncing/Shaking Breasts Tags cleanup?

We had 2 similar tags for shaking or bouncing boobs, with the following definitions:

Breast Shaking: Breasts bouncing up and down for a time, through the use of a performer’s hands.

Bouncing Tits: Breasts bouncing up and down for a time, as a result of body movement.

I see several issues with this:

  1. Neither cover the case of breasts shaking side to side, like a performer might do herself by shimmying her shoulders, or even shaking breasts horizontally with hands.
  2. Idea that “Shaking = hands, Bouncing = body movement” isn’t obvious from the names. Many of the scenes with the Breast Shaking tag are scraped from DDF studios with no edit history, meaning this was done automatically with an early API scrape into StashDB, so this might not be accurate.
  3. Both sound like something that happens because another performer is shaking the breasts, or because boob bouncing happens naturally during sex. Nothing for intentional self shaking without hands, whether horizontal or vertical.

I created a 3rd tag for a scene where the performer shakes her breasts side to side without using her hands:

Self Breast Shaking: Purposely causing one’s own breasts to shake around, such as by shimmying the shoulders.

and now I have an edit applying it to the scene. But I got some feedback that maybe a different name like “Horizontal Breast Shaking” would be better.

Thoughts on what to do? Every option has drawbacks.

  • Could remove “up and down” from the existing definitions, making them more general. But this makes it less specific especially in the “bouncing tits” case.
  • Could remove the hands reference from Breast Shaking, but then it seems redundant with Bouncing Boobs, and removes a convention that’s been understood for a while.
  • Could change the new tag to “Breast Shaking (Horizontal)” and have it cover the self breast shaking I had in mind, but that is inconsistent with the current convention that shaking means done with hands.

I don’t know what else the burlesque move of shimmying shoulders to make the breasts shake around could be called. Maybe “Breast Shaking (Hands Free)” could be another option.

“Breast Shaking Shimmy” might be another option for what I was trying to convey. Google this and you’ll find a bunch of tutorials on how to do this for burlesque, belly dancing, or other dance styles.

I’ve been thinking for a while about how to modify the Breast Shaking description because I believe it’s overly specific.

Breast Shaking should be general covering both horizontal such as side to side shimmying as well as vertical. Breast shaking should also not be exclusive to the use of hands as this goes against the intuitive definition of shaking. This also avoids relying on legacy assumptions from early tagging.

Bouncing Tits already works well for incidental or passive breast movement caused by other activity, so it doesn’t need to overlap with intentional shaking, but it could use a little more clarification.

Conceptually: Shaking = intentional action | Bouncing = resulting motion

I would propose these modifications:

Breast Shaking
Breasts shaking for a time, intentionally caused by the performer, in any direction and by any means (such as use of hands, shoulders, or body movement).

Bouncing Tits
Breasts bouncing for a time, usually up and down, as a result of body movement or other activity, rather than deliberate shaking (for example during sex, running, jumping).

With the broadened definitions, Self Breast Shaking becomes a more specific tag. With my proposed updates there is a good baseline to add any other subtags that are interesting i.e. Breast Shaking with Hands, Breast Bouncing from Sex, etc.

I’ve also been starting to use Swinging Tits as one of my personal tags, but I hadn’t quite fleshed it out completely yet but it feels like it fits the conversation. Maybe something like this:

Swinging Tits
Breasts swinging for a time, typically in a pendulum-like motion, as a result of gravity and body movement (such as when leaning forward or during riding or rear-entry positions), rather than deliberate shaking.

Thanks for these suggestions. As an update, I later changed the definition of “Self Breast Shaking” to “Purposely making one’s own breasts shake around, such as by shimmying the shoulders or using hands”, because I found an example of a performer shaking her own tits with her hands.

I like these ideas but prefer shorter definitions. Maybe something like:

Breast Shaking: Purposely making a performer’s breasts shake in any direction, such as by using hands or shimmying shoulders.

Bouncing Breasts: Breasts bouncing, typically up and down, as an incidental result of sex or body motion.

Swinging Breasts: Breasts swaying in a pendulum-like motion, typically from body movement while leaning forward or in a face-down position.

(Also, should these be standardized to always use the word “Breasts” in the primary tag name? There was an effort to make this consistent a while back, but it’s not 100% complete, we have a lot of tags with “Tits” in the name too.)

I think your shorter definitions adequately cover what I was hoping to achieve.

On Breast vs Tits - Breast sounds more clinical and I generally prefer the way Tits sounds paired with the accompanying word i.e. Shaking Tits, Bouncing Tits, Titfuck. In the case of titfuck Breast Fuck just sounds unnatural, so I’m not sure there’s gonna be a perfect symmetry by going with breast.

Breast however is a more gender inclusive word, while Tits is more feminine and generally not used to describe a man except perhaps informally. Looking at aliases existing on those tags like Lick Tits under Breast Licking seems to indicate they were intended to be more feminine anyway. There are only a few cases where it might actually make sense to tag that for males such as Breast Licking which is more common in JAV titles. But it also has that same female-centric aliases problem. All in all I don’t think having Breast/Tits being female only is really a problem as the male breast thing is pretty niche as far as I can tell. Someone could always add Male Nipple Licking if they care to tag that for those.

So that really lands me at something that’s most commonly in scenes should win out on the primary tag name, in the absence of common scene usage whatever sounds the best, and the other variations can be aliases.

OK. I’ve made the 3 edits:

I kept the “Tits” language on the latter two tags. I get that “Tits” sometimes sounds sexier and don’t want to make the disruptive change to the name of a common tag. I think the choice should generally be based on which usage is the most common if one synonym is much more common than the other (e.g. “Titjob”, “Breast Bondage”).
