Should we follow suit with the Github Discussions? Funding status has not been posted since October 2024 and is now just reserved for new version announcements, most of the issues are quite stale and noc much activity in version announcements either
My primary use of the discussions was converting support-related issues into discussions, but recently we made new issues to require using a pre-defined template, so that should elimate or at least greatly limit this issue.
It does mean that people would need to create an account of a different platform for support which is worth considering. From my point of view and observations the traffic there was very low and number of potencially affected users would be small.
All considered I think it does makes sense to disable discussions page for stashapp/stash repository.
I don’t have a strong opinion either way, but I think there’s more arguments for keeping it than removing it.
If I remember correctly, disabling discussions removes the ability to see past discussions, which isn’t ideal. It’s a handy place for users to ask questions without creating an issue, or needing to create an account here.
Having it means an extra place to have to monitor and answer questions, but I believe it’s low traffic and within the same ecosystem as our issues and prs.
I think we need to be wary of causing a “customer service runaround”. If someone posts a question, they should expect a reponse on the same platform without being redirected elsewhere.
For example:
User posts a question on Discord
Response 1: “Go check the StashDocs”
Response 2: “Not there? Okay, open a GitHub thread”
Response 3: “GitHub is the wrong place now, post this on Discourse”
Response 4: Never received because the user has already quit in frustration.
